In New Delhi, India hosted the eighth round of consultations with the chiefs of the border services of the competent authorities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO) member nations.

Outcome of Meet 

  • The meeting focused on security challenges, including threats of terrorism, and regional security scenarios, including the situation in Afghanistan
  • The participants in the SCO meeting exchanged information on assessments of the situation on the state borders of SCO member states, trends, and future projections.
  • The outcomes of the Joint Border Operation “Solidarity-2019-2021,” which was carried out in 2021 by the border services of the SCO member states’ competent authorities, were examined and reviewed.
  • This year’s Joint Border Operation “Friendship Border – 2022” was examined and authorised, as was the strategy for preparation and organisation.
  • India supported China’s move to conduct the  Solidarity – 2023” next year.
    • 9th round of joint border operations of the border services of the competent authorities of the SCO member states.
    • The meet also approved the place where the Solidarity – 2023 to be held and China is chosen
  • The participants discussed how to build shared stances on how to deal with new problems and threats at the border.

    • The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is considered as a counterweight to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
  • Issues with Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)
    • Terrorism, extremism, and separatism are among the SCO’s security difficulties, as are drug and weapons trafficking, illegal immigration, and other issues.
    • Despite their proximity in terms of geography, the SCO’s decision-making is complicated by the great diversity of its members’ histories, backgrounds, languages, national interests, forms of government, riches, and culture.
