India might get its first operational bullet train by the year 2026, Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, said.
About Bullet Train Project
- It is a high-speed rail line connecting the cities of Ahmedabad and India’s economic hub Mumbai with the help of Japan.
- The ballastless slab Track system as used in Japanese Bullet Trains (Shinkansen) will be used on the first high-speed rail corridor project of India.
- The Japan Railway Track Consultant Company Limited (JRTC) has provided the detailed design and also the drawing of major high-speed rail track components
- Valsad with major cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad and industrial towns like Vapi and Bharuch.
- Need for the Project
- Maharashtra and Gujarat are two of India’s most industrialized and prosperous states, with massive trade and passenger traffic flowing between them.
- Transport systems are unable to meet rising demand or to shorten travel times, resulting in Economic loss, productivity loss, and greenhouse gas emissions
- Implementing Agency
- The Government of India established the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), a Joint Venture of the Government of India and participating State Governments, to carry out all stages of MAHSR project development, from planning to execution, construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Benefits of the Project
- Reduction in travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from 6.5 hrs to 2.5 hrs.
- The high carrying capacity of about 1000 passengers per train.
- Dedicated corridors enable a high frequency of operations.
- Major connectivity boost to less developed areas along the corridor, such as Palghar & Valsad with major cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad and industrial towns like Vapi and Bharuch.
