Key Takeaways

  • Venus Mission by 2024 – ISRO  chief  in a national conference on Aerospace Quality and Reliability organised jointly by the Society for Aerospace Quality and Reliability, Thiruvananthapuram and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).
  • He also mentioned findings of Chandrayan – 1 and future launch of Chandrayan – 3.

About Venus

  • Venus is the second planet from the Sun and is Earth’s closest planetary neighbour.
  • It’s one of the four inner, terrestrial (or rocky) planets
  • It is called Earth’s twin because it’s similar in size and density.
  • It’s the hottest planet in our solar system, even though Mercury is closer to the Sun.
  • It have a clockwise rotation which is opposite of the Earth’s rotation
  • it has no moons and rings
  • It was the first planet to be explored by a spacecraft – NASA’s Mariner 2 successfully flew by and scanned the cloud-covered world on Dec. 14, 1962.
Note: Why is Venus So hot?
Venus has a thick, toxic atmosphere filled with carbon dioxide and it’s perpetually shrouded in thick, yellowish clouds of sulfuric acid that trap heat, causing a runaway greenhouse effect.

About Shukrayaan-1

  • Shukrayaan-1 is the name of India’s first Venus Mission to study the surface and atmosphere
  • It is expected to be launched in 2024.
  • The Satellite is planned to be launched onboard GSLV Mk II rocket
  • Research Areas:
