- India has improved In the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject, with 44 courses provided in the nation’s colleges and universities that are listed in the top 100 worldwide in their respective subject areas.
- Last year it was 35 — from various campuses made it to the global top 100.
Key Findings:
- India’s improved Performance:
- Led by its Institutes of Eminence (IoE), India has improved its position in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, with 44 courses, in their respective subject categories, offered in the country’s higher educational institutes ranked among the global top 100.
- India is the second-most improved nation in Asia with its overall performance improving by 17.2% year on year, after Mainland China which improved by 21.9%.
- Top Performing Indian Institutions:
- Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Science (in dentistry programme) – best performer among Indian institutes obtaining the 13th rank globally.
- IIT-Kanpur (Electrical engineering, ranked 87th), featuring in the top 100 categories for the first time.
- IIT-Madras (in Petroleum Engineering, ranked 21st )
- IIT-Bombay (Mathematic, ranked 92nd)
- IIT-Delhi (Electrical engineering, ranked 49th)
- Jawaharlal Nehru University (Sociology, ranked 68th)
- Global top:
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US is ranked first, followed by the University of Cambridge in the UK, the Stanford University in the US, respectively.

Government Initiatives:
- Institutions of Eminence (IoE) Scheme
