Soil samples from the Sangam ecological regions of Tamil Nadu are collected and sent to New Delhi for the new Indian parliament that is part of the Central Vista Project.
Focus Point
- Soil samples from five ecological regions mentioned in ancient Tamil Sangam literature ( Tolkappiyam ) Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, Neithal, and Paalai have been collected and sent to the capital recently.
- Multiple State government departments coordinated to collect the soil samples and sent them to the capital.
- A brief synopsis of each sample, such as the place of origin, its geological features, and historical importance, has also been sent.
Central Vista Redevelopment Project
- Aim – The project aims to strengthen governance infrastructure by building new facilities for India’s Parliament, an efficient and sustainable Central Secretariat to house all the ministries of the Government of India.
- The Project includes – Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, North Block, South Block, etc.
- Announced by – The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in 2019.
- Some non-heritage buildings in the neighbourhood will be demolished as part of this project, and new structures will be built in their place.
- Three Main Pillars of Project
- New parliament building.
- New secretariat complex to bring all the central govt ministries into one place.
- Development of the Rajghat and the area around it.
