Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launches National Initiative for Promotion of Upskilling of Nirman Workers (Project NIPUN)
Project NIPUN
- Ministry – Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA)
- Implementation Agency – National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)
- Associated Scheme – It is launched under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).
- Aim –
- The programme will support skill development in the construction industry, where it has not yet extended horizontally.
- Objective
- The scheme objective is to train over 1 lakh construction workers, through fresh skilling and upskilling program and provides them with work opportunities in foreign countries also.
- Features
- The NIPUN Project will give the construction employees the opportunity to look for better employment alternatives, earn more money, and possibly explore international assignments.
- Approximately 12,000 people will be placed abroad through NIPUN in places like the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other GCC nations.
- The convergence of associated line ministries will also be facilitated and supported by Project NIPUN.
- The whole management of training, monitoring, and applicant tracking will fall under the purview of NSDC.
- It will give students digital skills as well as “Kaushal Bima,” a three-year accidental insurance plan with coverage of INR 2 lakhs.
Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM)

- Objective
- To reduce poverty and vulnerability of urban poor households in the country by enabling them to access self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in an appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis.
- Funding – Centrally Sponsored Scheme
- Three Parts of Implementation
- Training through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) at construction sites
- Training through Fresh Skilling by Plumbing and Infrastructure SSC
- International Placement through industries/ builders/ contractors.
