  • The Annual Summit Meeting between India’s Prime Minister and Russia’s President is the highest level of institutionalised engagement in the strategic alliance between India and Russia.
  • Both countries share common platforms like

    • Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)
    • G2O
    • United Nations
    • Australia Group
    • Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) 
  • Russia supports India for permanent membership in the United Nation Security Council.

Recent Development

India­ – Russia deal on radio equipment 

  • Radio technical Systems (RTS) of Russia has signed a large-scale contract with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the supply of radio equipment.
  • The Russian company will manufacture 34 sets of instrument landing system (ILS) 734 for the modernisation of 24 airports in India.
  • The contract comes amid the war in Ukraine and pressure from the West on India to diversify its dependence for defence needs.
  • According to the contract, the first part of landing systems ILS­734 must be shipped before November. 
  • Payments within the transaction will be carried out in national currencies,
  • Significance of Deal 
    • The contract between RTS and AAI has become a breakthrough for Russian business in the highly competitive market of ground based radio equipment in India. 
    • There is no doubt that the successful execution of the contract will open up new opportunities for the implementation of joint projects to modernize Indian airport infrastructure

Russian Duma Propose new  G8

  • The Russian Duma speaker opinions the countries who refused to participate in the sanction war to form a new grouping of G8 as an alternative to US dominated G7.
  • The eight countries include  China, India, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, Iran, Turkey that account GDP at PPP is 24.4 per cent
